Det Vide Hus — 'the white house' — is a small coffee shop on Krystalgade, a few minutes from the Round Tower, run by Claus Dalsgaard, who is generally the one making the coffee or the sandwiches.

It is a specialty coffee bar first: espresso and filter, pastries, a short food menu. What it is best known for is the ice cream and lollies made in small batches in-house, including an espresso version, which appear when the weather turns and draw a queue out of all proportion to the size of the room.

The atmosphere is the point — unhurried, personal and entirely uninterested in becoming a chain.
